What is Tree Pollarding?

Pollarding is a method of maintenance where the main stem of a young tree is removed to encourage further growth.

The regrowth which occurs after the initial pollarding can then be regularly removed back to the same point. This technique is known as re-pollarding.

Why Pollard?

Often within towns and cities, pollarding is essential as it looks neat, tidy, keeps trees below a certain height for safety restrictions and keeps the tree healthy. Pollarding forms a compressed canopy of luscious regrowth. It looks attractive and creates less shade due to a thinner crown and therefore less wind resistance, making it safer regarding sun falling branches.

When we perform pollarding techniques, it increases the lifespan and health of the tree as it keeps the tree in its relatively young state, not allowing it to become overgrown and unhealthy.
