What is Tree Felling?

Tree Felling is essentially cutting down a tree and removing all waste made in the process.

This process is commonly called Tree Removal. They are essentially the same, although there are two methods for removing trees.

Our arborists' techniques typically come down to the available space; Sectional Tree Felling & Straight Tree Felling.

Sectional Tree Felling chichester

Sectional Tree Felling.

This technique is when we dismantle the tree in manageable sections, using lowering ropes and slings. Sectional Tree Felling is a professional practice where minor errors are a high risk to the arborist and groundworkers.

We use this technique only when a space is restricted or obstacles are in the way. The tree surgeon must guide dismantled sections down to avoid any damage. Branches are cut first, large limbs are lowered using lowering ropes, and the trunk is removed in sections.

Due to the risk of this skill, often this process can be costly.

Straight Tree Felling.

Straight felling is when our arborists cut the tree from the base, allowing it to fall straight to the ground in a controlled manner. This technique is often used for forestry work or properties with substantial space. For large trees, this process is not usually considered as a large amount of space is required. Small trees can often be straight felled safely and securely in most gardens.

The straight felling of a smaller tree begins with a 'face notch from near the tree's base. This felling technique is an opening into the trunk made by two angled cuts, with the intention being that the notch starts the tree falling in that desired direction before making the back cut through to the hinge. We use ropes and slings to assist the falls, to avoid any directional problems.
